Former Ohio Republican congressman breathed his last

Former Ohio Rep. Steve LaTourette died late on Wednesday. According to Rep. Jim Renacci's office Ohio Rep had been fighting against pancreatic cancer.

The Republican congressman was 62 years old.

Ohio Sen. Rob Portman said in a statement, "Steve LaTourette was known for his bipartisanship and his ability to get things done for Ohio. He was a proud son of Cleveland, a tough prosecutor, and an effective legislator who could find common ground with just about anyone. But I will miss him most of all as a good friend with a great sense of humor."

LaTourette first entered in office in 1994 and was in Congress for about two decades in the midst of redistricting.

In 2012, LaTourette announced that he would not be seeking another term. Three years later, he sued a medical facility for not passing along the information to him about a lesion on his pancreas and the need to follow up on the condition.

In addition to his tenure in Congress, LaTourette was famous for his work as the Lake County prosecutor during the Lundgren cult murders.
