Teen Driver Enters Plea to charges Related To Crash With Akron Fire Truck

The Teen driver accused of being responsible for two fatalities last month after crashing into Akron fire truck is remorseful and having difficult time, said her attorney.

“Three or five seconds either way the accident wouldn’t have happened” the 16 year old Akron girl’s attorney, Adam VanHo said.

On Thursday, VanHo entered a denial to charges- the equivalent of pleading not guilty in adult court at a preliminary hearing before Summit country Juvenile Court Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio.

The girl who is not identifying due to her age was given into the custody of her parents.

Two Passengers, Briyana Hayes 15, of Akron and Lashae Johnson,16, of Tallmadge were killed, and three teens and three fire fighters were injured.

Akron police have announced that the teen faces two counts of Vehicular homicide, two counts of Vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault.

She is also was cited for a red light violation, operating a vehicle on a temporary permit without a licensed driver and operating a vehicle with more than Juvenile passenger.

The girl was driving West bound on West exchange Street at 3:46 p.m. july14 in 2008, Chevy Trail blazer when authorities say she ran a red light and was struck by the fire truck, which was south bound on south rodes Avenue.

“It’s a Tragedy” VanHo said, “there’s not a nice way around that, Her cousin was one of the victims in the case. And she was injured pretty badly herself that she spent so many days in the hospital”.

“The young lady has never been in trouble before”, VanHo said. “she is a good kid who comes from a good family”.

He also said that accident was not caused due to alcohol and drugs.

A Pretrial was set for 10.30 a.m Sept 12.
