The mayors of the 30 largest cities in Ohio released their recommendations for what the next governor should do to bring the state into the future.

Each of the five recommendations is non-partisan issues and all things the mayors say have been neglected by the current administration and state government.

The Ohio Mayors Alliance says attacks on a home rule like we have seen in recent years need to stop.

"As mayors of Ohio's largest cities we know that the state cannot succeed in the long term without a better partnership with our next governor," said Mayor Andy Ginther of Columbus. "This starts with the next governor understanding the importance of municipal home rule."

The mayors also want to have a $100 million fund created that can be used to reinvest in communities across the state.

Additionally, they want an office of drug policy created to help combat the opioid crisis.

"From our communities that we have witnessed across the state we think that this is an urgent, urgent priority for the next governor," said Mayor Nan Whaley of Dayton.

Creating a task force to address infrastructure funding needs is their fourth recommendation, and changing how the state approaches school districts in distress is the final recommendation.

"That is the one thing as a parent, as a family, that we must do right; it's funding the education for the future of Ohio," said Mayor Tito Brown of Youngstown.

Because over the last 18 years, all of the States job gains and 87% of the economic output gains, according to Ginther, the state relies on its cities for its future.

"It cannot have [a future] without a better partnership with Ohio cities," said Ginther.
