Undocumented Immigrants face deportation For Minor Cases?

A lawyer says that undocumented immigrants face deportation over the minor cases. As an immigration lawyer, Julie Nemecek has not slept much lately. In the last month, she said her phone has not stopped ringing.

Many are clients picked up by the immigration to be deported.

One is 44 years old Renato Garcia-Sanchez, currently being held in the Butler county Jail just outside of the Cincinnati with others.

Nemecek said that, "they have traffic violations. And far less than most people I know. Running a red light 10, 15, 20 years ago. And that is their only offense. Other than being in this country without documentation."

Though she can not legally discuss all of Sanchez's case she said his story is not uncommon.

She also said that,” when I email the immigration officers and ask them why is this individual being picked up? What are their criminal offenses? The response that I'm getting back I'm getting emails listed traffic violations. Offenses that have been dismissed."

Legislation To Ban Suspending Of Young Students

10TV dug through the court records in 16 Ohio counties and found four unrelated but closed misdemeanor cases in the Franklin county that were resolved before 2017 but nothing else.

According to the Butler County Sheriff's department website where the Sanchez is being held, no charges are listed. A notation indicates the "hold for ICE."

Nemeck said that, "this is somebody who, two to three months ago had immigration encountered him? They would have told him to go home, have a nice day and enjoy a cup of ice cream. But now we're spending our resources to pick him up, pull him away from his children, to scare people, to place him in jail, to spend government resources government money to have him deported.”

10TV emailed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement Spokesperson and asked what Sanchez was suspected or accused of that led to his arrest by the immigration but we have not gotten a response.
