Family Of Student Freed From North Korea Is Adjusting To Reality

The father of an American college student who has been jailed in the North Korea and was returned to his own state of Ohio in a coma said that the family is "adjusting to a different reality."

On Wednesday, Fred Warmbier told that his son, Otto, has been "terrorized and brutalized" while his 17-month detention and also was in coma for the period more than a year.

"The day after he was sentenced, he went into a coma," the father said in the interview. He also said that he and his wife, Cindy have learned about their son's condition in the last week.

The 22-year-old student from the University of Virginia has been medically discharged from North Korea and also was arrived in the Cincinnati on late Tuesday. He has been then taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center by an ambulance. The hospital spokeswoman did not provide any information on his condition, but said that his parents have planned to hold a news conference on the Thursday morning.

Their public appearance will be at the Wyoming High School, one of the Ohio's top-rated schools. Warmbier graduated from there in the year 2013 as class salutatorian and also had played soccer.

The residents of the northern Cincinnati suburb have tied up the blue-and-white ribbons onto the trees near the family's home. Joy at his release was mixed up with the concern over his condition.

In the first official comment as Warmbier has been returned to home, North Korea said that it has released him over the humanitarian reasons. The state-run Korean Central News Agency on Thursday said that he had been sentenced to the hard labor but did not comment on the medical condition.

Warmbier has been serving a period of 15-year prison with the hard labor in North Korea after he has tearfully confessed that he has tried to steal the propaganda banner while he was visiting the country.
