On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at the main session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which had more than 20 foreign leaders and 10 heads of international groups in attendance. In his speech that lasted 11 minutes, PM Modi criticized Pakistan for supporting terrorism and mentioned the terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people were killed. Here is what he said:
I appreciate President Xi for his kind welcome. In the past 24 years, India has made positive contributions to the SCO. India's approach to the SCO is built on three main ideas: S for security, C for connectivity, and O for opportunity. Security, peace, and stability are essential for any nation’s development. However, terrorism is a global issue that affects everyone, not just one country. In the battle against terrorism, India remains committed to unity, and the SCO plays a vital role in this. India has taken a strong stand against terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, and we reject any form of funding for terrorism. Recently, we witnessed the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. I am grateful to all the nations that have offered their support. The attack in Pahalgam was not only an assault on India’s spirit but also a direct challenge to all nations that believe in humanity. It raises a critical question: should we allow a country that openly supports terrorism to be accepted by any of us?
We all need to join forces and oppose terrorism in every form. It is our duty to humanity.
